NZOG wraps up Karoro shoot

The Karoro survey saw the acquisition of about 290 square kilometres of 3D data, which also included a tie line to the Tane-1 well which lies outside of the permit boundary to the west.

The survey was carried out by the Schlumberger-owned MV Western Monarch vessel using a 10-streamer array of 8.3 kilometre long streamers.

The main focus of the 3D shoot was the Karoro lead identified within the north-west area of the PEP 52593 permit that had been previously mapped on 2D seismic as a potential anti-clinal depth closure within the extend of the North Cape Sand reservoir play that was penetrated in the nearby Tane-1 and Hoki-1 wells.

NZOG hopes the new data will assist in bringing the Karoro lead to the status of a drillable prospect by determining whether it could be a valid structural closure and if the North Cape Sand has preserved porosity.

The Karoro survey took about 10 days to shoot and fulfills the permit work obligation of at least 225 square kilometres of new 3D data being shot within the permit area.

The PEP 52593 joint venture now has until 31 March next year to process, interpret and map at least 225 square kilometres of the new data and to build its inventory of leads and prospects.

NZOG operates PEP 52593, holding an equal 50:50 share with Australian company Octanex.
