Petrel cheers Cardium flows

Petrel said the 16-19 Lochend Cardium well had flowed at an average rate of 150 barrels per day over an initial 30-day production period.

“We are greatly encouraged by the initial production results from our first horizontal Lochend Cardium well,” Petrel managing director David Casey said.

“Not only are results slightly higher than expectations but we see scope for refinement as lessons learnt from this well are applied to future operations.”

Petrel has a 40% stake in up to 5120 gross acres in the Cardium play which lies immediately west of Calgary.

The Cardium play covers much of western Alberta and is estimated to host about 10 billion barrels of oil in place, of which 1.8 billion barrels have been produced to date.
