Right now, in the U.K., EE is the only carrier providing 4G. With the BlackBerry Z10 and the Q10 both 4G ready, if you want 4G speeds you'll need to jump on to the EE network to get those speeds. While there isn't U.K. wide coverage yet, EE are slowly adding more and more cities and towns to their 4G list and have recently added 12 towns, making it a total of 62 4G areas.

The 12 new towns are Aylesbury, Berkhamsted, Billericay, Blackpool, Brentwood, Dewsbury, Huddersfield, Lytham St Annes, Marlow, Pontefract, Thame and Windsor. This now means that EE now provide 4G coverage to 50% of the U.K. population. EE also plan to add 18 more locations by the end of June and reach 70% on the U.K. by the end of 2013.

We should see other U.K. bring their 4G coverage later this year. Three already promised when their 4G comes, it wouldn't come with a premium price. Vodafone and O2 UK have yet to confirm anything further.

Are you in located in the added towns? Will you be switching to or getting a new contract on EE? Sound of in the comments.

Any chance they add Argyll to that list before 2018? Lol

I am on a Z10 but my phone only ever shows H+ in London. Can anyone tell me why? What's the difference between that and 4G?

I am using an unlocked Zed from Canada if that makes a difference...

I think they have different LTE frequencies in Canada - I think your LTE Z10 is LTEless if used in Europe..

You should have bought an European model.

Reply dominoes20 16 hours ago

H+ is hspa or 3g+. You should be seeing 4G symbol

My phone displays LTE when in an LTE coverage area and 4G when in HSPA+ area

50% of the country... you mean England only with the exception of Edinburgh and Glasgow

CeeBeeJay: It's probably because of the Canadian hardware supporting different LTE bands. As of this moment there aren't any phones which support universal LTE bands but I know it's coming.

Anyway Three not charging more for LTE is the reason I switched to them a little while back from Vodafone. Good customer service too in my experience. Didn't feel like paying the early adopter premium with EE.

Where I live you're lucky to get any signal let alone 3G! I'm with 3 so hopefully they will upgrade subscribers for free when they introduce 4G.

Sent from my beautiful blackberry z10!

Wow, you're the first person I've heard make a positive comment on 3 customer service, although I haven't been on 3 for a long time, I believed them to be notorious for poor customer service and I remember having to phone repetitively to get a solution to simple problems..

Scotland is an afterthought apart from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Too expensive - happy paying £10pm staying on 3G/WIFI.

Please roll on some competition to drive down prices

I wonder why the UK is such a late comer to 4G let alone LTE. Is it because the standards (i.e the frequencies) take a really long time to get approved?

Strange I already had 4G in Brentwood

Part of the UK's problem, I believe, is that we had to wait for the entire analogue terrestrial TV system to be shut down before the frequencies were made available for 4G. Then the carriers were reluctant to dive in after having to cough up painful amounts of cash for the 3G auctions.

I doubt I'll ever see 4G at home. I live in a village consisting of 21 houses so we obviously aren't a priority. I'm lucky to get a signal at all at home. I generally rely on O2's Tu Go iPad app to make and receive calls on my mobile at home.

I'm not in that 50%.

H+ in UK is equivalent of LTE in USA whereas 4g in uk is equivalent to 4G LTE

4g is super fast and only available on the EE network as a bolt on or as a contract roaming will not give you true 4G and is over 20mbps and is due a further enhanced speed to around the 70s

Reply shampZ10 15 hours ago

John you will find the UK is in fact in front

I've got the Z10 as well, from uk but I've got a pay as you go T-mobile (EE) but I've never seen 4G, do you think they put a limit if I'm not on a contract?

Reply tinochiko 14 hours ago

How much are you paying for your contract and what do you get? A friend of mine upgraded on a T-Mobile line but the upgrade was to another T-Mobile line which is separate from the 4G EE, so apparently, whilst the company's have merged, existing customers stay on respective networks with 3G unless they explicity opt for the premium 4G, im on ee and I get 4g in a lot of places, I have noticed the higher speed downloads, but am only on 1g so use personal hot spot and wifi as much as possible, T-Mobile did boast they would have every postcode on 4g by summer time so good to see their working on it :)

Reply tinochiko 14 hours ago

Sorry didn't see you're on Payg, if the aim card says T-Mobile and not EE, you will need to get a EE sim, of which they offer great deals, if I remember correctly the most expensive of their. 30 day roll on PAYG plans is 25 pounds with 4gb data unlimited texts and 500 minutes, the 15 and 10 is about the same but less data, etc

Reply critanime 13 hours ago

Woo Pontefract and Dewsbury. Means I can go between the three sites that my work place owns and get 4G.

I will only get 4G when it is worth paying for.
I'm not going to pay premium prices for little improvement over H+

My Z10 always loses data connection when on the move and changes from 3g to 4g. For me EE meant just trouble, sorry guys, but I can't understand the excitement.
