More Samsung Galaxy S4 units 'now floating into' Sprint sales channels

Samsung Galaxy S4 supplies have been lower than expected at launch, which has affected multiple carriers -- with Sprint being no exception. In a recent note we received from Sprint, we learned that the carrier's Galaxy S4 orders would be limited mainly to online and over-the-phone orders, with in-store supplies being very scarce due to low supplies.

The new note we received from Sprint today contains much better news: increased Galaxy S4 inventory is now starting to make its way into Sprint sales channels, thanks to increased production from Samsung. New shipments are expected on a daily basis, which will make things much easier on those looking to score one of the year's hottest phones. If supplies continued to be replenished, it shouldn't be hard to find one of these phones in a Sprint store relatively shortly.

Bangladesh readymade garment units reopen after disaster

Readymade garment manufacturing units in Bangladesh reopened on May 2, 2013, after the Savar building collapse.“Yes, the garment factories have reopened today,” Mr. Atiqul Islam, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) told fibre2fashion on phone.Production at apparel making units was suspended fearing massive labour unrest in the aftermath of the collapse of Rana Plaza, which housed five separate garment units.The building collapse on Wednesday, April 24, resulted in death of over 400 people.Meanwhile, the BGMEA has urged the Government to take adequate security measures so that no untoward incident takes place.Earlier this week, representatives of more than 40 buyers, including H&M, JC Penney, Gap Inc, Inditex, Levi’s, Marks & Spencer, Teseco, Target, Nike Inc, Primark and New Look held a meeting with BGMEA leaders.At the meeting, it was decided that a committee, including representatives from buyers, would be formed to determine the terms of references regarding assessment of all safety-related issues of apparel units, including their building structure.Accordingly, buyers would be submitting a list of the names of their representatives this week to the BGMEA for formation of the committee, and to decide the future course of action.At the meeting, BGMEA leaders urged the buyers’ representatives to talk to their respective top managements to extend shipment time of products and not to impose any penalty on them considering the overall situation.Meanwhile, BGMEA has issued a circular to all its members, advising them to get their garment factory buildings examined by recognized structural designer/design firm, and send a copy of their recommendation to BGMEA before May 31, 2013, for safe operation of the garments activities in the building (s).Last week, at an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) of BGMEA, members agreed to shift their generators to ground floor if they are upstairs within 30 days time.

10 million units of the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be shipped to 50 countries by the end of this month

By the end of this month, Korean manufacturer Samsung will have shipped its new Android flagship model, the Samsung Galaxy S4, to 50 different countries. Eventually the phone will be shipped to 150 countries representing 327 carriers. Obviously in a world divided by religion, political affiliation and even sports teams, everyone can come together for a smartphone. According to sources from the supply chain, nearly 10 million units will ship the first month.

Demand for the device is pegged at the same 10 million unit figure for the first month, rising to 30 million in the second quarter. Thanks to better features on the newer model, the Samsung Galaxy S4 is expected to do better than its predecessor which sold 6.5 million units in the second quarter last year. But considering  that the Samsung Galaxy S III launched at the end of May last year, it had one less selling month than the Samsung Galaxy S4 will in the second quarter this year, making the Q2 comparisons nearly impossible.

Unlike the HTC One, which has suffered through delays because of component shortages, the Samsung Galaxy S4 uses in-house manufactured processors, panels, image sensors and memory. This should allow Samsung to keep production going even if demand for the phone is as heavy as expected. And if factories in South Korea have to shut down due to heightened tensions with North Korea, Samsung has facilities in China and Vietnam that can be utilized as long as parts made in South Korea can still be exported.
