Why do British students prefer to study in the Netherlands?

Why British students prefer the Netherlands?British students are increasingly looking out for better options and places to pursue their education. It is not surprising that many of them are eagerly turning towards Dutch universities as a destination that can provide them a great learning opportunity with a lower fee as compared to the UK.

Nearly 1,600 British students had been enrolled in Dutch universities in 2011-12 that is 18% more than in previous academic year. For instance, at Maastricht University UK student population takes this year the 4th place.

The universities in the Netherlands are offering attractive incentives to students from the European Union. They are required to pay for a fee of about €1,771 (£1,400) per academic year for an undergraduate programme. For a postgraduate (Master) level course, the fee however is comparable with those in UK.

Dutch government provide EEA students with possibility to apply for a limited loan tuition fees of minimum  €266. More information to read on duo.nl. Even working students who spend up to 32 hours on a job per month, have access to a free public transport in the country as well as a grant of €266.

As British citizens do not need a visa, they can apply at Dutch universities even in August for programmes started in September and in January for courses beginning in February.

Finding employment in the Netherlands has some prerequisites. A Dutch health insurance is required for this and a proficiency in the Dutch language can be preferable. But this is not difficult considering the options available for students to acquire Dutch linguistic skills.

The Universities in Holland offer a wide range of language courses for students free of charge or with discount. Many research universities, for instance, Leiden University, Tilburg University and University of Groningen (RUG) organize Dutch language classes throughout the year. From other side many British student can find a job at the companies there English is the main language of communication and the knowledge of Dutch is not required.

As most EU students are coming to the conclusion that a Dutch educational experience can be beneficial in many ways apart from the savings in cost. They offer a multicultural academic exposure at a young age in the land of tulips and windmills. See more information about tuition fees of Dutch universities in the searching programme database.

British students are interested in studying in Holland

British Students are Interested Studying in HollandThe Netherlands is becoming one of the most popular destinations for UK students. The growing interest of students from United Kingdom for the Netherlands as a education spot is demonstrated by 27% application growth of potential students from the Great Britain at Universities of Holland.

Dutch Universities are roaming all over England in the attempt to recruit students for education in the Netherlands. The Utrecht University, Tilburg University, Maastricht University, Leiden University and Roosevelt University are actually extending their services to the British students. Recently they visited the Whitgift School in Croydon and with a presentation on studying in Holland.

During the presentation, along with demonstration of degree courses in Holland which include a great range of subjects, also were showed pictures of Vincent van Gogh and photos of famous Dutch football player Robin van Persie. It was also highlighted that most Dutch people speak fluent English and that would make easy social activities on campus.

Holland based Universities are known to teach in English for a tuition fee of 1,500 pounds (EUR 1,771) per year. The fact that the annual university fee is so low attracts a large number of people to come and apply for studies. As compared to other universities in United Kingdom, these offered in Holland are about 1/10 th in terms of tuition fees.

The location of the Netherlands is at a stone throws distance from many places in England and has good connection with the UK. That makes it a popular place to study for youngsters opting for studies close to home. See programmes and tuition fees in our database of English-taught programmes.

Texas Tech students grab honours at PCCA fashion show

Three apparel design students at Texas Tech University took top honors Saturday (April 25) in the Cotton and Denim Runway 2013 design contest sponsored by Plains Cotton Cooperative Association (PCCA), Cotton Council International (CCI) and Cotton Incorporated.

The contest is held in collaboration with the university’s College of Human Sciences, Department of Design’s Apparel Design and Manufacturing (ADM) program. Winners were announced during the annual TECHstyle Senior Fashion Show.

Caitlin Moore, a senior from Rowlett, won the men’s jeans category with a design for the casual market. Starting with natural-colored denim provided by the American Cotton Growers denim mill at Littlefield, Moore hand-washed and dyed the fabric gray.

She described her design as straight-fitted legs with clean and simple lines and minimal embellishments. Katelyn Ortiz, a senior from Lubbock, and Lana Stevens, a junior from Austin, placed second and third, respectively, in the men’s jeans category.

Elaine Morton, a sophomore from Plano, won the women’s jeans category with a design she described as an easy statement piece to fit any style. Her design featured leather panels and leather pockets. Moore placed second in the category. Emma Knowles, a senior from Matador, and Jocelin Villarreal, a senior from Rio Grande City, tied for third place.

Emily Taylor, a senior from Midland, took first place in the casual wear category where contestants could design any garment made from 100 percent cotton. Taylor entered a white dress that featured cotton guipure floral lace and cotton poplin. Cynthia Reimer, a senior from Lubbock, won second place. Alicia McDonald, a senior from Lubbock, and Lisa Hon, a sophomore from Lubbock, tied for third place.

Taylor also won the Cotton Research/Trend Board category. Ortiz placed second in the category and Meghan Rizkal, a senior from Colleyville, placed third.

“This year’s Cotton and Denim Runway event was the largest ever with 47 cotton outfits entered in the casual wear category, 23 in the women’s and men’s jeans categories and 31 cotton research trend boards,” explained Su Shin, associate professor and ADM program director. “Our students had an opportunity to take a cotton field trip and visit the ACG denim mill,” she added.

“Throughout the process, the students were very engaged in learning about cotton for their design and production development projects. Texas Tech University, the ADM program, and I appreciate PCCA, CCI and Cotton Incorporated for their support.”

Selected students in each category will be offered an opportunity to visit Cotton Incorporated in New York City and Cary, N.C.
