On February 21st, we held our first Knit & Crochet Night of 2013; 25 randomly selected crafters were brave enough to face rush hour traffic and make the trip out to our HQ to enjoy a night of fun and festivities. All in all, it was a great success!
We started the night off right by giving the grand ol' tour of our office; as everyone settled in, we began to put together our TOP SECRET PROJECT: a Companion Cube baby blanket! We couldn't be happier with the end result - it looks fantastic! Every attendee did their part to make this project a reality, and we want to thank each and every one of you. The blanket will be donated to Project Linus, an organization that provides knitted and crocheted blankets to children in need.
Chell Timmy's newfound companion!Afterwards, like a magical food fairy, the pizza finally arrived! Whilst we nommed, our more experienced crafters gave short talks on various knit and crochet topics. Our copy writer monkey, E, spoke about the Mother Bear Project, a charity that provides hand-knitted or crocheted bears to children affected by HIV/AIDS in emerging nations. (We may be trying to organize our own project for Mother Bear soon, so keep an eye out!) E was followed by Emily, who spoke about continental knitting, and Allyson, who gave an introduction to amigurumi.
The rest of the night was spent chit-chatting away, trading craft secrets, and sharing our wares. We had quite the talented group among us - there were knitted lightsaber toys, stuffed Daleks, and all sorts of geeky scarves and hats. (If you want to see them all, check out our Flickr slideshow below!) We topped off the event with a raffle and freebies for EVERYONE! YAY!
Just a few of the geeky wares everyone brought! Thanks again to all our attendees for coming out and contributing to the special project; we couldn't have done it without you! Since this went so well, we are considering expanding our Knit & Crochet event to allow all our friends from afar to participate. Be on the lookout!
