VU University Amsterdam has been running various courses of Dutch as a second language (NT2) for already more than 50 years and has accumulated plenty of valuable experience and expertise in this area. People coming to study at VU Amsterdam can choose whether they would like to have lessons during the day or in the evening, join a group or go for the individual lessons, take a general course or focus on a specific area. Thus, the following options are available:

Dutch Day Course. The course is divided into four levels, each of which takes nine weeks to complete. Students following a day course have lessons three to four days a week. Dutch Evening Course. The course is divided into five levels, each of which takes eight weeks to complete. The course is also suitable for people working full time, as the classes are held twice a week from 18.00 to 20.30 in the evening. Dutch Summer Course. This course is especially suitable for the newcomers as it is designed for the complete beginners. The course takes two weeks to complete and the lessons take place every weekday. Dutch State Exam training. A two-day intensive training is designed for those who are planning to sit for the Dutch State Exam (Programme II) and would like to have more practice in accordance with the exam format.Advanced courses of Dutch. People willing to focus on a particular skill can choose from the Academic Dutch course, Medical Dutch, Business Writing and Business Speaking.Individual Dutch lessons. VU University also offers its students an opportunity to take one-to-one classes to follow their own individual programme or work on a particular skill.

Dutch language transition year

Do you have foreign educational qualifications and would you like to do a bachelor's or master's degree in Dutch at Inholland University of Applied Sciences?

We offer the Dutch Language and Transition Year (Taal- en Schakelcursus, TSC) to prepare you for higher education in Dutch. Apart from mastering the Dutch language you will also develop your study skills and knowledge of a subject area of your choice.

This Dutch Language and Transition Year is aimed at non-Dutch students who have completed pre-university education abroad of at least senior general secondary education level. It has been especially designed for students who would like to do a higher education degree in Dutch and is open to anyone who has a valid residence permit.

The Dutch Language and Transition Year prepares you for higher professional education. Apart from granting you formal access after having completed this year, you will also have mastered enough skills to successfully complete the higher education degree of your choice.

Not only will you have developed your Dutch language skills and study skills, you will also have increased your knowledge of a field of study of your choice and Dutch society.

Students who have participated in the Dutch Language and Transition Year are statisically more likely to complete a higher professional education degree faster and better compared to foreign students who have merely taken official Dutch state exams (NT2-II).

INHOLLAND University of Applied Sciences offers additional Spring and Summer Courses to prepare you for the Dutch Language and Transition Year which runs from September to June.

You can do the Dutch Language and Transition Year in Amsterdam/Diemen. Study costs The tuition fees for the Dutch Language and Transition Year are equal to the tuition fees of all programmes of Inholland University.

Foundation year at VU Amsterdam prepares for studying in Dutch

foundation programme at VU AmsterdamMany universities offering Dutch study programmes in the Netherlands require that those wishing to enrol sit admission examination.

Mostly the knowledge of Dutch, mathematics and English is necessary. Besides that, international students need to pass State Examination II in Dutch language (NT2) to be admitted.

VU University Amsterdam is one of the research universities in Holland that offers a complete preparatory course, which considerably increases the applicants' chances of passing the exams and being enrolled.

'Voorbereidend jaar Anderstalige Studenten Vrije Universiteit' or VASVU - this is the name of the programme, is also called Foundation Year. The programme lasts one academic year which is split into four semesters consisting of nine to ten weeks each.

The Foundation Year at the VU University is primarily designed for students who have a pre-university diploma from outside the Netherlands and who wish to study in a Dutch bachelor or pre-master programme. The participants choose the subjects they want to focus on depending on the requirements of the faculty. Among the subjects offered in VASVU there is Dutch, English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, History, and others.

At the end of the programme the participants have the possibility to participate in the admission examination of the VU University. The successful ones will be enrolled. Besides devoting their time to improving academic skills, the students also obtain valuable information about studying in the Netherlands.

They get a chance to meet former participants of the preparation programme and to discuss their study plans and attitude with the lecturers and a student counsellor. Moreover, participants will be assisted with the application procedure for the university they want to study at.

Before starting each applicant has to pass entry tests in Dutch, English and mathematics. The tuition fees range from EURO 475,00 to EURO 2900,00, depending on whether you only take Dutch classes or join a full preparation class.

Several times a year the VU university organizes an information meeting. The next one will be held on August 13, 2012. The meeting starts at 3.30 p.m. in room 12A-11 (twelfth floor), in the main building of VU, De Boelelaan 1105, Amsterdam.
